ATLANTA – Atlantans properly discarded thousands of pounds of electronic equipment, paint and abandoned tires as part of the city’s annual Earth Day Collection in April at Turner Field.

The final tally includes:

·         32,440 lbs of electronic equipment; 3,528 gallons of paint and 1,640 abandoned tires

“I’m thrilled with the outcome of this year’s event,” said Atlanta City Councilmember Carla Smith, who has sponsored the city-wide Earth Day Collection for nearly a decade. “We properly disposed of electronics, paint and tires. This year we even put recycled paint back into the community for neighborhood use.”

In fact, 604 gallons of paint were distributed to neighborhood organizations for graffiti eradication.

Since its inception, the event has collected more 400,000 pounds of electronic equipment alone.

“I would like to extend a special thank you to all of the volunteers and community partners who gave of their time on April 23 to unload items from the 528 cars that came through the drop-off area,” Councilmember Smith said. Volunteers included members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Community partners included Atlanta Recycling Solutions, Live-Thrive Atlanta, Atlanta Paint Disposal and Turner Field.
